By Niticentral Staff on May 26, 2013

Narendra Modi calls for zero tolerance towards MaoistsGujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has condemned the Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh in the strongest terms, calling it a “gruesome attack on democracy”. Modi called for a zero-tolerance policy towards such terrorism.

Modi paid condolences to the deceased and prayed for a speedy recovery of those injured. He urged the nation to stand united and fight the menace of Naxalism that threatens our democracy. “The need of the hour is to stand together as a nation and vow to fight this menace that threatens our democracy,” he said in a tweet.
“My prayers with the injured. May they recover quickly,” Modi tweeted.

The attack took place at a dense forest near National Highway-202 connecting Chhattisgarh with Andhra Pradesh in the Maoist-infested Darba Gati Valley at around 5:30 pm. The Congress leaders were returning from the Parivartan rally.

Karma, a former Home Minister of the State, has been on the hit list of the Maoists for quite some time. In 2005 he started the Salwa Judum movement to protect Tribals against the Maoists.
BJP president Rajnath Singh has said that the menace of Maoism should be fought together by people regardless of their political affiliations.
