PANCHKULA: 23-year old Jyoti Devi of Hoshiarpur was allegedly
punched, kicked and later thrown under the rear wheel of a truck by
accused MLA Ram Kumar Chaudhary and his two other associates in sector
21 on November 21, 2012.
Chaudhary had accompanied the victim to a nursing home in sector 20 Chandigarh for her abortion and signed documents mentioning himself as Jyoti's husband in the official register of nursing home on August 7, 2012.
On August 9, Chaudhary went back to the nursing home and over-signed his signature converting Ram Kumar into Ramesh Kumar. Dr Aditi Gupta, who had examined the victim, has also identified Chaudhary in the presence of police personnel establishing that he had accompanied the victim on August 7.
A 1400 pages long chargesheet, which was submitted in a local court on April 3, reads that for misleading the investigation agency, Chaudhary led the recovery of his Cruze claiming that Jyoti was thrashed and strangulated in this car which later turned out to be another car.
The summary of chargesheet revealed that accused Chaudhary had deposited Rs 1.38 lakh in the bank account of Jyoti in sector 11 in five installments between February, 2012 and July, 2012.
Moreover, one of the associates, Paramjeet Singh, had been intercepted by Panchkula police in sector 19, hours before the murder of Jyoti on November 21.
The chargesheet claimed that Paramjeet was in the touch with Chaudhary and when he conveyed to him that he was intercepted by the police, Chaudhary and his associates along with Jyoti went to the roundabout and the accused Gurmeet went to police and managed to bring him back.
