When Ghonda BJP MLA left AAP red-faced

Monday, 17 February 2014 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

On a day when the Arvind Kejriwal-led Government came down over the Jan Lokpal Bill, the one man who rattled the ruling party in the Delhi Assembly was BJP MLA Sahab Singh Chauhan.#

The five-time legislator from Ghonda Assembly constituency thoroughly exposed Kejriwal and his Cabinet over the Appropriation Bill for providing the power subsidy of Rs 372 crore to private discoms owned by the Reliance and the Tata stiffly opposing the Bill, Chauhan hit out at Kejriwal for paying huge sum of money to the Reliance-owned companies whom he had accused of funding the BJP and the Congress. The fierce attack by the BJP leader left Kejriwal and his associate Manish Sisodia red-faced in the House which provoked frequent interruptions by the two. Kejriwal went on to urge the Speaker to stop Chauhan from making political speech in the House but his request failed to convince him. “Having paid Rs 372 crore to the private discoms as power subsidy amount, the AAP Government is exposed now. It is evident that the AAP has succumbed to the pressure of the Reliance. The money meant for development works is being transferred to the pockets of the private companies,” Chauhan alleged.

Chauhan, who was the Chief Whip of the BJP for the last 10 years, was unfazed by the altercations and unrelenting in attacking the AAP MLAs and Kejriwal whom he termed as ‘inexperienced’. He went on to criticise Speaker MS Dhir for breaking the laid norms of the House. “Kejriwal and his legislators have no knowledge of the rules and regulations of the House. It is very unfortunate that even the Speaker of the Assembly is acting in a partisan manner and adamant on breaking the norms. It is shameful that the ruling party is disrupting the proceedings of the House and the Speaker has miserably failed to bring the House in order,” Chauhan said.
