Ganga activist Swami Gyan Swaroop Sanand arrested


Noted environmentalist Swami Gyan Swaroop Sanand, aka Professor GD Agrawal was arrested soon after he started his pre-announced journey towards Alaknanda valley on Monday morning.
After being arrested, Sanand was taken to Roorkee, where he was kept in detention, before being set free late on Monday.
A former IIT professor, Sanand, had reached Haridwar recently. He had earlier announced his decision to visit Alaknanda valley in connection to his ‘save Ganga’ campaign on Monday. Following this, the saints of Matra Sadan came forward and extended their full support to Sanand.
The founder head of Matra Sadan, Swami Shivanand Saraswati had even warned of massive protests and hunger strikes, if the administration tried to stop Sanand from visiting Alaknanda valley.
Sanand had announced his decision to visit Alaknanda valley in a hurriedly called Press conference in Matra Sadan on Sunday.
